This is an iconic view of the entrance to Birkenau Concentration camp (Auschwitz 2). There are few intact buildings left on this site, as the Germans tried to destroy them before they were liberatedMore. However it is the scale of the site which was basically a killing factory where more than 1.3 million individuals were shipped for execution in the gas chambers.
I would suggest that everyone should visit here at least once in their lifetimes as a reminder of what we are capable of - remember this happened in Europe only 70 years ago.
